An animal relinquished to SECARE, Inc. must be an adoptable animal.  Any animals with significant behavioral or medical issues will be refused.

An animal may be refused if SECARE personnel determine it is not in the animal's best interest to be confined at a shelter.  Examples would include advanced age.

You will be asked to provide any health care information you have on the animal including vaccination records or other veterinary care performed while the animal was in your care.

A behavioral evaluation will be performed on the animal to determine suitability for adoption into the average home.

Once the animal is relinquished to SECARE, the previous owner has no further claim on the animal.

The animal may be adopted through SECARE or transferred to another no-kill facility once it is accepted into the shelter.

Undisclosed behavioral or medical conditions may be grounds for an animal being euthanized at a later date.

Animals that later develop behavioral or medical conditions may be euthanized at a later date.

A relinquishment fee is required to be paid in cash at the time the animal is surrendered to SECARE.

If the previous owner changes their mind about relinquishing the animal to SECARE, holding fees or an adoption fee may apply.  The relinquishment fee may be applied to the holding fees at the discretion of SECARE.

SECARE had a 4% euthanasia rate for 2010.
